Millicent Tomkins: Black and White Plus

While her art embraces so many more styles, these charming black line drawings of music room scenes, accented with one splash of color, are part of a series she apparently did in 1980 and the first of her works I found many years ago printed on art cards. Without realizing it, my sister later presented me with two framed prints of the very same cards.

Millicent Tomkins, multi-talented and multi-faceted, shows off her drawing skill and, as a trained pianist and singer, her love and clearly close ties with the music world.

Jane Freilicher: window view

A beautiful breakfast table and sunlit landscapes from Jane Freilicher, a contemporary artist who illuminates the beautiful moments of the day through and outside her windows.

Jennifer Vranes: O those glorious trees!

An Oregon-based contemporary landscape artist best known for her vivid paintings of Aspen forests and European landscapes.  I was first delighted to come across her paintings of trees (especially as a 'tree-hugger') and then discovered her lush paintings of Tuscany vineyards.  Enjoy!

Van Gogh, Sun and Breeze

We need more light and heat, especially with another impending snowstorm. These are vibrant outdoors paintings of his (along with one bright indoor dining room) with which I am not familiar.  He's amazing.  He's made it possible for us to sense the textures of the surrounding countryside, the warmth of the sun, the movement of the air, and the feel of the day.

Our mostly cold, grey and white days of the past few weeks need an infusion of PAUL GAUGUIN's heat and brights.

Andy Smith, Contemporary American Watercolor Artist

I met Mr. Smith on a trip several years ago to Lancaster, PA, where he lives. He is a self-taught painter whose vision of finding the charm, texture and beauty in everyday things captured my eye. I especially love his windows and doorways.

You can enjoy more of his paintings on his website or at one of the shows at which he exhibits. To quote Mr. Smith, "I .... feel honored that I can earn a living by doing something I so thoroughly enjoy. I am blessed beyond my expectations."
